The three scholarship categories listed below are funded by sales from Southwest Washington Medical Center's two gift shops located on the main campus. The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the Southwest Scholarship Committee, taking into account available funds and qualifications of the applicants. Awards range from $500 to $5,000 each and are renewable pending reapplication and approval.
The Southwest Scholarship Committee shall award scholarships in the following categories:
-
Southwest General Health Career Scholarships These scholarships are open to all graduating seniors accepted into a college of their choice, or returning college students residing in Clark or Skamania County. Applicants must be pursuing a course of study relevant to health care (Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine not included) in either an undergraduate or graduate program, and demonstrate how their classes and course work will potentially benefit Southwest Washington Medical Center.
-
Southwest Employee Scholarships A portion of the scholarship funds have been set aside specifically for Southwest employees who wish to advance their position by taking accredited courses in a desired health care field, pursue a career in a health related field, or enhance their skills through a graduate program. The employee should have worked for the hospital a minimum of six (6) months and may be either full-time or part-time. This scholarship cannot be used to replace funds available from the hospital for education, but can be used in conjunction with such funds.
-
Southwest Junior Volunteer Scholarship This $2,000 scholarship may be awarded to one graduating Southwest Junior Volunteer who has been active at Southwest at least part of his/her senior year and is intending to go into a health related field. The recipient must have accumulated a minimum of 150 hours of service at Southwest and be accepted into a college.
