Duncan Borland, D.O., medical director, is a neurologist with fellowship training in stroke treatment. Dr. Borland leads the program by managing acute stroke care of patients in the Emergency Department and during the initial hospital phase. He provides continued direction by overseeing the Comprehensive Stroke Center's protocols and providing education to staff and the community.

Lisa Pickens, RN, CCRN, is Southwest's Stroke Program coordinator. Pickens is a former program coordinator for OHSU's cardiac surgery and chest pain services. She has critical care nurse certification as well as a graduate degree in health services administration. At Southwest, Pickens monitors each stroke patient and communicates with members of the Stroke Care Team to ensure that care is effective and meeting national guidelines. She is also a family advocate and provides community education programs. "Our goal is to help the community recognize stroke symptoms and reinforcing the need to go to the Emergency Department immediately when symptoms occur," Pickens explains.
George Shanno, M.D., Neurosciences medical director, is a neurosurgeon with special training in interventional neurosurgery (less invasive brain procedures). Dr. Shanno is able to administer clot-dissolving drugs into the affected area of the brain, limiting the disability following certain types of stroke and reducing the risk of recurrence via a small catheter that is threaded into the brain. He is able to actually remove some clots and repair aneurysms using state-of-the-art techniques.
