Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation Presents $100.000 In Scholarships

Annual awards recognize students planning health care careers
The Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation awarded 67 students from the Southwest Washington region a total of $100,000 in scholarships to help some of the regions best and brightest realize their dreams to work in the medical field and help their communities. Twenty Southwest employees are also among the list of scholarship recipients.
The individual awards range from $1,000 to $3,500. Recipients include high school seniors, health care workers studying to advance their careers, Medical Center volunteers, and college students enrolled in a health care program of study, including nursing, pharmacy and medical students.
The annual scholarship awards are offered as a community benefit each year. Profits from sales at the two Medical Center Campus gift shops support the scholarship program annually.
Southwest employees honored included Aubrey Biggs, Susie Burmeister, Emily Coombs, Amber Davis, Amy Davis, Bettina Fitzgerald, Shelby Gialich, Sandra Hadenfeld, Heidi Hess, Chacie Johnson, Rachel Justus, Brittany Koistinen, Jennifer Laeger, Matthew Payne, Martha Rodriguez, Mary Jane Schreiner, Beth Smith, Ashley Steckley, Tanell Test, and Dianne Washburn.
Special honors went to the following individuals:
Sarina Slaid Scholarship — Ting Chieh Lin, a Junior at Fort Vancouver High School, was awarded $3,000. He will be a pre-med student at Johns Hopkins University.
Margaret Heins Scholarship— Emily Coombs, the 2006 recipient of this $3,500 award, is a nurse in the Family Birth Center at Southwest who is pursuing her Neonatal Nurse Practitioners Masters through the University of Washington.
Junior Volunteer Scholarship—Jagdeep Kaur, awarded $3,000, is a senior at Fort Vancouver High School who will be attending Concordia University to become a Registered Nurse.
