Following Your Surgery at Southwest Washington
Regional Surgery Center
After your procedure we will take you to the Recovery Room. Nurses will
monitor you as you wake from anesthesia and until you are ready to be
discharged. Recovery time varies with your overall condition, the type of
surgery, and the kind of anesthesia you received.
Your surgeon will give you and your family instructions regarding
postoperative diet, rest, and medication.
Recovering at Home
We recommend that you plan to have someone stay at home with you for the
first 24 hours after your surgery.
It is normal to feel drowsy after receiving an anesthetic. You should
avoid operating equipment or driving a car, signing important papers, making
significant decisions, or drinking alcoholic beverages for at least a day
following your surgery.
If you experience any problems after returning home, please call your
physician immediately. One of our staff members will call you to see how
you are feeling and to answer any questions you may have.
