As published in Southwest Health:
When you hear the word arthritis, you probably think of an older person. Yet more than 300,000 children in the United States have some form of arthritis.

Osteoarthritis is the common wear-and-tear kind of arthritis that you usually associate with aging. It's a disease with many names and more than 21 million faces.

Then there's rheumatoid arthritis, or RA. RA is a chronic disease in which the lining of your joints is inflamed. The bad news is that RA can strike at any age. When it strikes children, it is known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

RA can lead to joint damage, which then leads to chronic pain, loss of function and even disability. But there is good news: Today there are treatments that can help people with RA live healthier, more comfortable lives.
