Genetics Counselor - 7384 |
- Master�s Degree in Human Genetics and Counseling or a related field
- 1-3 years experience as a Genetics Counselor or equivalent education and/or experience
- Board eligible or board certified as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counselors
- Strong oral/written communication
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Knowledge of psychosocial aspects including risk perception, support and coping mechanisms, relationships and decision making process
- Knowledge of available resources for practitioners and patients
- Ability to perform medical literature searches from various databases
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and extrapolate information found in medical literature and apply it to clinical situations
- Ability to identify, evaluate, develop and administer appropriate educational materials to enhance patient understanding of potentially complex genetic information; ability to communicate with individuals from a broad range of socio-economic, educational, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Good computer skills to include word processing
