As a potential participant and subject in a research study, you have the following rights to get information about:

  • What the study is trying to find out.
  • The procedures, actions, drugs or devices the study will use.
  • Any discomforts and risks the study may cause.
  • Any benefits or value that I might expect from the study.
  • The risks and benefits of any other choices, procedures, actions, treatments, drugs or devices that might help me.
  • Medical treatment choices if I am injured due to the study.
  • Ask questions about the study or the procedures or actions that will be used in the study.
  • Quit the study at any time. My choice to quit will not be used as an excuse to hold back medical care or treatment that I need. 
  • Have a copy of the signed and dated written consent form.
  • Decide to consent (say yes) or not to consent (say no) to be in a study. I have the right to be free of pressure to consent to the study.
