Your help makes a difference.

While many of the programs and departments at Southwest rely in part on philanthropic support, the Foundation focuses on a few each year in order to raise the most funds for what has been determined to be the Medical Center's most critical needs. Which of the following are you most interested in?

Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Care Unit and a Patient Floor in the Firstenburg Tower: Good things come to those who wait. The E. W. and Mary Firstenburg Tower opened in 2007, and now we're completing the last three floors. A new Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Care Unit will provide the very best in critical care. The additional patient floor will feature sweeping views and private rooms. We need your help to complete these important projects! Your donation could dedicate:

  • a tree
  • a patient room
  • an art piece
  • an entire wing
  • an entire patient floor!

New Kearney Breast Center: Do you know about the power of pink? For two years now, Pink Power the event has come to Vancouver, bringing with it evenings of fun for women and a few men brave enough to be Pink Tie Guys! More than $4.1 million was raised to build our community a state-of-the-art Kearney Breast Care Center that will save lives and keep families together. The new Center will open this summer. Consider making a gift of support, or purchase a Tribute Tile for the entryway in honor or memory of someone you love. There are a number of needs like artwork and audio/visual equipment for which we're working to raise additional funds - check out our current naming opportunities.

Did you miss these fun Pink Power events? Click here to watch the video that played at 2008's Pink Power Strikes Again! at Big Al's. Big Al's owners and event sponsors Al & Sandee Kirkwood went above and beyond to make sure more money raised would benefit the new Kearney Breast Care Center.

Patient Care Endowments: As John D. Rockefeller said “Giving is investing.” Endowments are long-term investments that keep on giving. They are the best way to ensure that a program or department continues to thrive due to ongoing cash flow.

Endowments begin with a certain amount of money, that remains unspent. That money is carefully invested, and the interest earned is that amount that is spent each year toward the program or cause. To start an endowment requires at least $25,000. You could set one up in your name or that of a loved one. Endowments are a great way to ensure that your name or that of someone you love continues on far into the future. For more information about these critical opportunities, e-mail Foundation Director Jean Rahn. Continued contributions to existing endowment funds are vital as they help grow the amount of money generated each year for that program.

Vulnerable Patient Care: In these challenging economic times, Southwest is caring for more men, women, children and babies who do not have health insurance. Your support is critical in ensuring that people who need it most can get the care they need. Many are hard-working families who are cared for at our Family Medicine of Southwest Washington clinic. Others are low-income women and babies seeking care at our Healthy Steps Women's & Children's Center. Southwest is one of the only places offering in-patient mental health care through our Behavioral Health program. And our Mother Joseph Charity Care Endowment helps ensure that anyone needing care can get it far into the future.
