Is
there a way to test if spinal cord stimulation will work for me?
The first step is your visit with a Southwest pain specialist. If
your pain specialist believes spinal cord stimulation might be a good
option for you, you can take a test drive, which consists of:
- A minor reversible outpatient procedure, similar to an epidural,
to place stimulation leads, which are connected to an external trial
system.
- Customizing the therapy with an easy-to-use remote control which allows you to
adjust your therapy to meet your pain needs.
- Keeping a journal over the three- to seven-day trial period to evaluate the therapy
During the trial, the amount of pain reduction you experience with the
Precision System can vary based on the following:
• Complexity and location of your pain. • Type of pain signal. •
Ability to program the system optimally for your condition. • Your
commitment to the process
Your pain specialist will review the results of the trial run with you in
determining whether long-term therapy would be helpful.
