Surgery-Veins
Surgery can be used to treat venous diseases including varicose veins and spider veins. The surgeons at Southwest Medical Group are specially trained to offer the latest techniques for treating venous diseases including:
Endovenous Laser Treatment Endovenous Laser Treatment is a treatment alternative to surgical stripping of varicose veins in the legs. A small laser fiber is inserted, usually through a needle stick in the skin, into the damaged vein. Pulses of laser light are delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut.
The closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, your physician positions the closure catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter delivers radio-frequency (RF) energy to the vein wall. As the RF energy is delivered and the catheter is withdrawn, the vein wall is heated, causing the collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.
VNUS Closure VNUS® Closure® is a clinically proven, minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux, with little or no pain.
The VNUS Closure procedure often results in less pain and less bruising when compared to traditional vein stripping surgery and laser treatment. Using the Closure system, physicians close the diseased veins by inserting the Closure catheter into a vein and heating the vein wall using temperature-controlled RF (radio frequency)energy. Heating the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins. Closure patients can walk away from the vein procedure and be back to everyday activities—either at home or at work—typically within a day.
Endovenous laser treatment is available at Surgical Specialists (87th Ave).
VNUS Closure is available at Surgical Specialists (Mill Plain).
