Epidural steroid injections: A non-surgical treatment that can relieve pain in the back, neck, arms and legs caused by irritation and inflammation of the spinal nerves. A steroid, cortisone, is injected into the epidural space where the spinal nerve comes out of the spinal cord. Read more.
Electrical nerve stimulation: A noninvasive, drug-free pain management technique. Also called transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). By sending electrical signals to underlying nerves, the battery-powered TENS device can relieve a wide range of chronic and acute pain. Read more
Infusion pump: an electronic device used to control the administration of intravenous fluids in very small amounts and at a carefully regulated rate over long periods.
Occupational therapy: A form of therapy that encourages and instructs manual activities for therapeutic or remedial purposes in mental and physical disorders.
Physical therapy: The treatment of physical dysfunction or injury by the use of therapeutic exercise and the application of modalities that are intended to restore or facilitate normal function or development. More on Southwest's Rehab program.
Relaxation training: A stress-reduction technique that uses a sequence of progressive exercises under the direction of a therapist to lower the level of anxiety and its neuro-motor manifestations.
