As a not-for-profit institution, Southwest Washington Medical Center is accountable to the people we serve. There is no private gain. We're governed by community leaders who volunteer their time. This spirit of helping our neighbors harkens back 150 years to our heritage of Mother Joseph:

'Permit me to recommend to you the care of the poor both in our institutions and outside them…Do not say: ah! This does not concern me, let others attend to them. My Sisters, whatever concerns the poor is always our affair."
--Mother Joseph's last words to the Sisters at her bedside, January 8, 1902
