AHEAD OF THE CURVE: More Than a Nip and Tuck

Cosmetic (aesthetic) surgery is certainly a popular way to hide all those bothersome bulges and wrinkles. For some people, however, it's the only way to feel "normal" again.

Southwest welcomes the expertise of an aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon to Clark County. Allen Gabriel, MD, has joined Pacific Surgical Specialists (PSS) in Vancouver, a part of Southwest Medical Group. Dr. Allen Gabriel of Pacific Surgical Specialists

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than a million reconstructive procedures are performed each year. Reconstructive surgery is different than cosmetic surgery, which is typically done to improve someone's appearance or self-image. Reconstructive surgery, on the other hand, is intended to repair diseased or damaged parts of the body, like surgery to correct birth defects or disfigurement.

"We can do incredible things to improve function and appearance for people who are living with a serious defect or abnormality," explains Dr. Gabriel. "Today's technology and techniques make it possible to do things that were not an option just 10 years ago."

Dr. Gabriel is fellowship trained in breast and aesthetic surgery. He graduated from University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed his integrated plastic surgery residency at Loma Linda University. Dr Gabriel also completed research fellowships at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University of Nevada School of Medicine.
