INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE: Pink Power Strikes Again!
Approximately 650 supporters of a new Breast Care Center at Southwest Washington Medical Center raised a total of $815,000 at Pink Power Strikes Again! on May 8th. Together with last year's Pink Power event, supporters have raised $4.1 million toward the total construction cost of $5.6 million.
The Southwest Foundation had set a goal of raising the final $500,000 to complete the $4 million building campaign for the new state-of-the-art Breast Care Center at Southwest's Physicians' Pavilion. However, the event brought in a total of $815,000, surpassing the goal!
The fundraiser also included a raffle for a new Ford Mustang convertible from Vancouver Ford. More than 2,200 raffle tickets were sold for a total profit of $29,000. 52-year-old Debbie Huggins of Woodland won the new vehicle after her ticket was drawn at the Pink Power event.
Designed specifically for women, the new Breast Care Center will provide better access to the many services they need in an environment that is easily-accessible and comforting. It will have more room for screening and diagnostic services, with the potential of adding specialized services like massage therapy and yoga. Its exact location is yet to be determined, and the design is still in the early planning stages. The Southwest Breast Care Center is currently located in the Physicians' Pavilion, which is also on the Medical Center campus.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event, including Big Al's owners Al and Sandee Kirkwood. Other major event sponsors and supporters include First Independent, The Columbian, and Jan and Steve Oliva.
