Now that planners have figured out where to build the new Breast Care Center at Southwest Washington Medical Center, the project is moving full speed ahead with construction scheduled to begin this October or November.
The Breast Care Center's new home will be on the 4th floor of the Physicians' Pavilion, on the Medical Center's campus. It will be nearly twice the size of the current facility (currently located on the 2nd floor of the Physicians' Pavilion)-enough room to house the center's highly-sophisticated breast imaging technology, as well as complimentary therapy rooms for massage or other modalities.
Overall space planning includes three digital mammography rooms, two ultrasound rooms, radiologist reading rooms, conference rooms, and physician exam rooms. From screening to diagnostics to consultations, the center offers integrated medical services in a spa-like setting.
The project is expected to take 5 - 6 months to complete at a cost of around $5.6 million including new technologies. The Southwest Washington Medical Center Foundation is spearheading the fundraising effort, collecting $4.1 million so far and still going strong with numerous naming opportunities.
