There are nearly 50 service areas affiliated with SWMC that volunteers support throughout the Medical Center and the community. If you choose to be a volunteer, you would be scheduled and assigned based upon sites that are available and your personal commitment. You may request a particular service site, but we cannot guarantee that your request will be fulfilled.

In addition to many clerical functions, volunteers may also provide emotional support to patients, guests and families. These areas include:

• The Emergency Department  
• Family Birth Center
• Inpatient Surgery Information Specialist
• Same Day Surgical Services
• Heart and Vascular Services
• Urgency Care Clinic
• Wheel Chair Transport and Escort
• Lobby Information & Reception
• Gift Shop

Another popular area that volunteers enjoy supporting is fundraising in our two Gift Shops. Net proceeds from this is earmarked for scholarships and "good-deed" knitting and sewing projects.

Volunteers provide important services at the many Information Desks throughout the hospital and the Memorial campus. They greet and escort guests and patients, assist with admitting and give directions, and deliver flowers.
