Breast Center Nurse Navigator
"As a patient advocate and a healthcare professional, I want the best outcome for each woman I meet. I consider it a privilege to care for women who are having procedures done in our office, and for those I can help through the scary diagnosis of breast cancer." —Sandra Kienitz, RN, CBPN-C, nurse navigator
A diagnosis of cancer can bring about many changes in the lives of patients and their families. The Kearney Breast Center provides many resources and services to help you along the way.
The nurse navigator acts as a liaison to enhance the quality and continuity of care for breast cancer patients. Consultations with the nurse navigator can help you assess your personal needs and concerns and show you the resources that are available. This includes information on exercise, wigs or where you can find prosthetics.
You may be referred to other resources available at Southwest such as the Breast Cancer Education and Support Group, medical social workers and peer support. Also, resource libraries for patients are located within the Kearney Breast Center and in the main Southwest Library.
The nurse navigator stays in touch with you during the course of your breast procedures to ensure that your needs are being met. She will also help you with physician consultations, appointments, educational materials and support.
