(Volunteers within the hospital)
Contact: Volunteer Services, 360.514.2035 Email: volunteerservices@swmedicalcenter.org
Volunteer Services is a highly structured program, with an average of 350 active, dedicated, volunteers providing excellent service to our staff, patients, and guests. Adult and junior volunteers donate nearly 70,000 hours per year.
They provide service in nearly 50 service areas affiliated with Southwest. In addition to the Mill Plain campus, we have other sites including our Memorial campus (downtown Vancouver).
In addition to many clerical functions, volunteers may also provide emotional support to patients, guests and families. These areas include the Emergency Department, Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Units, Family Birth Center, Surgery, Same Day Services, and Inpatient Rehab.
Volunteers also greet guests and patients, assist with admitting, give directions, provide wheelchair escorts, and deliver flowers.
Volunteers enjoy supporting the Gift Shops. A portion of the net proceeds from the Gift Shops is earmarked for healthcare scholarships.
Applicant Requirements:
Volunteers are requested to serve a minimum of six months of service. When you apply, you’re invited to attend an informational session and a detailed hospital orientation. The application process also includes a personal interview.
After you complete all application requirements, you will receive a regular weekly schedule and be trained by professional staff. Volunteers are expected to embrace the Southwest Promise, which includes the values of safety, respect, integrity, compassion, excellence, and teamwork. |
